From 4 to 5 February 2025, the Director of ERAIFT and Rector of IFA Yangambi, professor Baudouin MICHEL, will be taking part in the activities of the workshop on creating synergies to strengthen plant health as part of the single health approach, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The workshop is organized by WAVE (Central and West African Virus Epidemiology).
The main objective of this meeting is to harness existing expertise and resources in Africa to achieve the collective goal of improving food security through the sustainable management of plant pests. More specifically, the 17 WAVE member institutions, along with other partners, are discussing a strategic and collective review of plant health activities in Central and West Africa, identifying existing expertise and the scope of these initiatives, and developing synergistic pathways. They also discussed short-, medium- and long-term action plans for setting up a Collaborative Alliance for Plant Health in Central and West Africa. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for the official signing of memorandums of understanding and partnership agreements between the members of this Alliance.
ERAIFT and IFA Yangambi express their gratitude to WAVE for the invitation and thank the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (USA) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK) for their financial support to WAVE. Finally, ERAIFTand IFA Yangambi would like to thank the European Union for its support.
