On Monday, December 15, 2025, ERAIFT held an official ceremony in its conference hall to inaugurate the newly established insectarium within its facilities. The event opened with welcoming remarks from Professor Baudouin Michel, Director of ERAIFT, followed by an address from the institution's new Director, Professor Lucie Félicité Temgoua. On this occasion, both leaders reaffirmed ERAIFT's scientific vision, grounded in the action-research approach, while underscoring the central role of entomological research in understanding, managing, and promoting the sustainable use of ecosystems.
Professor Frédéric Francis from the University of Liège then delivered a keynote lecture titled, "Entomology: Why and How?" His presentation shed light on the growing anthropogenic pressures on insect populations, while highlighting the essential ecosystem services they provide—particularly in pollination, biological regulation, and overall ecosystem functioning. The lecture also covered approaches to pest control, the strategic importance of strengthening entomological research in Africa, and the opportunities for scientific collaboration between research institutions.
